Best Quality

We believe it to be a wonderful opportunity to explore, enjoy and work on the art of Marius Petipa, the father of classical ballet, using extracts from some of his legendary works. The secrets of classical ballet are hidden in the details. These details will be shared with you by the best teachers from the Mariinsky Theatre – Petipa’s home theatre, where he worked and created more than 70 different ballets and dances throughout his 60 years in Saint Petersburg, Russia and by the International team of ballet coaches.

Uniqueness

The legacy of Marius Petipa is not only embodied in the repertoire that has been passed on to us by his dancers, who later became the teachers of the Imperial (Vaganova) ballet school and the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theatres. In our days, delving into various archive materials and, foremost, into the choreographic notations from the collection of N.G. Sergeyev, allow the researchers to get a more accurate insight into Petipa’s choreographic works. Today, the reconstructions based on the documents are highly demanded across the theatres worldwide. Yet again, they are opening to the audience the world of long-forgotten performances and are giving back the historical identity to inherited masterpieces. There are many ways of approaching the interpretation and deciphering of the notations, as there are edges of a prism, serving to reveal to us the various sides of classical ballet. The study of such reconstructions in practice presents us with a priceless opportunity to let the choreography of the great masters of the past pass through our very own bodies.

Pure Classical Ballet

We offer pure classical ballet, technique and original repertoire of Marius Petipa, without modern, contemporary and other supplementary classes, instead, we offer an educational program, the ballet-miming and ballet history.

The classical ballet lessons will be given by an excellent teacher from the Mariinsky Theatre, the home of Petipa, where his traditions were kept, “leg to leg and arm to arm”. The original Petipa Repertoire: solo variations, corps de ballet and character dances will be taught by International team of ballet coaches.

  • Our coaches from the Mariinsky Theatre will teach the Traditional Petipa.
  • Our choreographer-scientists have analyzed the unique Petipa ballets notations from the “Stepanov Collection” located at the Harvard University, They will coach the Reconstructed Petipa. Today, the reconstructions based on the documents are highly demanded across theatres worldwide, as an example, the works of Sergey Vikharev, Alexey Ratmansky, Doug Fullington, Yuri Burlaka, Slava Samodurov.
  • Our teachers will coach the Imperial Petipa collected from great Petipa ballerinas that immigrated from St. Petersburg after the Revolution in 1917.

All teachers and coaches will provide the lessons with ballet history. Additionally, we will organize a guide trip on the “Petipa Road” from La Monnaie, where he studied ballet, to the street of his home.
